Creating HUDs for UT
How to make HUDS for UT
(Note: I hope you can understand if not ICQ#91846003 me. This tutorial is for experienced PSP users)
So, we want to make a HUD for you mutator or mod, huh? Ok I`ll try to guide you though how to.
Let`s start out with the sizes..
If you want to make a
Crosshair it should be 32x32
If you are making a HUD part ex:
health icon, it should be 64x64
Scopes are 256x256
rescaled..
Everything else, like menus and stuff, should just be
so it fits best into the scaling numbers.
1. Making the HUD icon.
(Paint Shop Pro)
Let`s make
a Health Icon, shall we?
Start out with creating a new image
64x64 GreyScale Background: Black
We are making a
Grayscale image because UT can color the HUD icon it self, red blue
yellow etc. (Coding Stuff)
Paint a Cross or what ever you want.
Here
I made a simple template, to get it all aligned right.
That
is very important that one of the sides are not longer then the
other, cause that will look very bad, unless you want it that
way
Now Make the final shape of your Health Icon out from your
template
Big Jump, I made my shape a bit tech like? and
added different colors hmm? why, you say?
Well, darker colors
will also be darker red or what ever color you color it in UT, so
you can actually make 3D like HUD :)>
Now TO make it look less raw, we could add some filters, PSP got
everything we need!
Ow?
Yeah, now it doesn`t look that raw more, and it got a nice feeling
to it. How..
First I added some lightning, and then I Gaussian
Blurred the HUD 0.50
Its finished, now you can fuck around with
it just keep in mind everything black is full-transparent everything
else is semi-transparent.
A little Demonstation:
I colored it with PSP, and made it transparent (75%) it
will look a bit different ingame though! Again depending on the
coder.
2. You want it in Game.!
First of all make sure your
HUD is 16x16, 16x32, 32x32, 32x64, 64x64 and so on, make sure if its
a HUD icon, that it is Greyscale.
Now Importing is a whole
different manner, if your making a mod you should give it to your
coder of course, if your making a mutator on your own
I would
goto http://www.planetunreal.com/wod/tutorials/make.htm
a good tutorial on importing using the -unreal make.
Advanced
Mappers or Coders can do this :)
