Turning/Rotating Brushes

Forward:

This is my first tutorial, and I assume that if you are reading this tutorial you must be as inexperienced as I am. But just think about it, even Inoxx used to be inexperienced – whether in his past life or what doesn’t matter much!

Abstract:

Have you ever wondered how to build diagonal walls, or inclined walkways? Well here’s a simple way- maybe not the only or the best way to do it, but hey, if it’s fast, simple and easy to do, why not?

Assumptions:

You know how to make a room, put a playerstart in it, how to move and shape your brush, and deal with textures.

Tutorial:

Introduction:

I haven’t read in any of the other tutorials how to do this before I stumbled upon doing it by accident. You kow how you move anything around in the map with Ctrl or Shift and dragging? Well, have you tried dragging it across the room with your right mouse button? That’s it! Now, depending on the 2d view, you’ll be tilting or turning your brush. So, since then I haven’t bothered again with changing the entries in the builder brush’s properties if my walls or whatever faced the wrong direction. Why not just swing it 90 degrees?

The only problem, though, is that your builder brush stays in that position, including others like stairs etc. And sometimes you could get a little carried away by all the swinging and tilting that you’ll have a hard time turning your building brush back to its default position! The only advice I can give is this:

Overhead View:

Imagine you stand in front of a wall that is being rotated. It would turn diagonally across the room and probably slam into your shoulder.

Side View:

Imagine now you are standing on a narrow walk way, if it is being rotated, you would be thrown off and land on your face.

Front View:

Standing on a narrow walk way that is being rotated would throw you off to the side so that you would be landing on your side.

Just figure it out, it’s fun.
