EXEC Tutorial

Beginner

Before Mutators, some of us old skoolers used EXEC’s in Unreal.  An EXEC is a series of console command (Read the console tutorial, if you don’t know what I am talking about) saved in a .txt file that can be loaded in game.

It’s all very simple, you make a .txt file in your UT/System dir.  And you place a list of console command in there.  So for instance you wanted to make a cheat EXEC.  Make a txt file called, lets say, cheat.txt.  Then open up that file and place in it:

Iamtheone
god
loaded
allammo

Now save this file.  Then in game you hit ~ and typed "exec cheat.txt".

It will activate cheats, place you in god mode, give you all the weapons except for the redeemer, and then give you 999 ammo for you weapons.

Hopefully that gave you the right idea, now try this.

Bizarro had put this together a while ago it simulates space fighting in UT, its not perfect and has a bugs, but it can be fun.

Summon botpack.fighter
set pawn mesh fighterm
set fighter drawtype DT_None
set zoneinfo bWaterZone true
set Pawn UnderWaterTime 9999999.0
set Pawn WaterSpeed 340.0
set Pawn DrawScale 0.5
set Pawn CollisionHeight 20.0
set Pawn Physics PHYS_Swimming

Bots sometimes don't navigate too well as space fighters, but the player control is fine.

As well the teamcolor overlays apply to the ships in a cool symmetrical pattern with no tweaking!

Be careful, on big maps, some people will fly far out into the sky and snipe at everyone.

The bug with this exec is that more often than not, you won't be able to move vertically until you respawn.

Hopefully now you have an idea of the types of things you can do with EXEC’s.

Have fun.
