Curved Objects

Making curves is all done thru the 2d editor.

ARCHES

Notice the archway texture Door2B in the Ancient package? You can make a arch to match the texture!

First, subtract a 256x256x256 brush. And make another room (don't put them together). Subtract the other room. Get the builder brush and form a hallway to connect the two rooms but don't subract it yet. Be sure the height and width is the same as the rooms. (256x256) Select the wall facing the hallway and apply the door2b texture to it. And the other wall facing the non subtracted hallway in the other room.

Now its time to apply a arch to the hallway-(builder brush).

To do this, select the texture in the texture window, (door2b)

open up the 2d editor:

To set the texture as the background choose File->Image->Get From Current Texture. This will load the texture into the background of the editor. Sometimes, the editor will crash if you do this. If it happends then continue reading this tutorial. I provided a file that will have everything set up for you.

Read this if no probems occur:

The simplest way to create the cut out section for the door is then to move the 4 corners of the square to the sides of the black area and make top segment a bezier curve. If you then move the bezier points to just above it creating a cool curve. Be sure you move the bezier points to align the curve over the arch on the texture.

You can increase the smoothness of the top line by going to Edit->Segment->Detail and choosing say 10 (I think the default is about 4).

choose Process->Extrude and enter 512 for the depth of the corridor.

The builder brush should have a arch for the ceiling. You may need to rotate it to connect the two rooms. Now subtract.

Now you have a arch, you can do it without the door2b texture. I just thought the texture could add a little kick to it.

CURVING HALLWAYS

This is really easy: build a 256x256x256 builder brush, open the 2d editor. You should see the plain cube. Now move the green dot in the middle 30 times to the right. choose Process->Revolve

In the first column, put 16 and in the second column put 4 for a 90 angle and 8 for a 180 angle curve hallway.

I hope you can understand this, please let me know if there's any problems :-)
